The Park Avenue Clinic offers Outpatient, Intensive Outpatient, Medication Assisted Treatment (Methadone, Suboxone, Vivitrol), Peer Support, and Case Management Services, and is new seeking a progressive Medical Director to lead its medical team. The Medical Director is responsible for providing supervision to the Medical Assistant, Pharmacist, and Nurses. The Medical Director will review the applicant's personal and family medical history as a primary aspect of their evaluation of the applicant's appropriateness for Opioid Treatment. The Medical Director will conduct a Physical Examination assessment which includes the applicant's vital signs, their general physical appearance and a review of their major organ systems. If this examination uncovers medical problems, the Medical Director will counsel the applicant and refer them to their Primary Care Provider or to a local health clinic. The Medical Director will order appropriate lab (blood) and serologic tests will be completed as well, including placement of a PPD. Position Summary: The Medical Director provides clinical and medical oversight for the Opioid Treatment program and in line with the Medical Staff Office By-Laws for the Behavioral Health Division of Merakey. The Medical Director will adhere to all federal and state requirements set forth by the professional licensure requirements and related to medicated assisted treatment. Medical Director Responsibilities: - Provides leadership and direction to all medical and clinical staff related to client care and medicated assisted treatment.
- As a member of the Medical Staff Office (MSO) for Merakey Behavioral Health, the Medical Director will assist the MSO in its mission to improve the health care experience of the people and communities we serve by promoting quality medical care and patient safety throughout the organization.
- The Medical Director will work as a member of the MSO and in collaboration with Merakey leadership and management to ensure that all medical personnel meet regulatory requirements, comply with best practice guidelines, adhere to professional standards, and practice within the scope of internal policies and procedures.
- The Medical Director will be an Executive Member of the MSO and as such will participate in decision making, policy development, Executive Committee meetings, the Medical Peer Review process, the MSO Credentialing Committee, and any other duties and functions of the MSO as directed by the Chief Medical Officer.
- Interfaces with Virginia State licensing and other regulatory bodies who monitor care provided by Merakey to ensure that medical operations follow all applicable regulatory and licensing regulations.
- The Medical Director will work in collaboration with Program Management and the MSO to assist with recruitment, hiring, supervision, and retention of medical staff
- Participates in compliance reviews, chart audits, and case consultations to ensure ongoing quality of care that advances the standards of all behavioral health and medical services.
- Promotes the Merakey goal for the extension of integration of care.
- Supervises either directly or indirectly any physician, physician’s assistant and/or nurse practitioner.
Direct Client Care Responsibilities: - Determine the proper dosage level for clients and the best opioid agonist medication
- Prescribes, orders and discontinues all medicated assisted treatment dosages.
- Ensures all information obtained during the course of physical examinations, laboratory results and other diagnostic evaluations are duly recorded in all patient records.
- Ensures all physical examinations are completed, certifying each applicant is eligible for narcotic treatment.
- Attends treatment team meetings.
- Is compliant with State Licensure Standards, accreditation standards, 42 CFR and HIPAA standards and Company policies.
