Learn more Staff psychologists at this level diagnose mental disorders, conduct psychological or neuropsychological assessments, treat mental disorders through a variety of modalities, provide adjunctive interventions for treatment of medical disorders, and may conduct research. Among the modalities provided are individual, family, and group psychotherapies, and other interventions such as biofeedback and environmental interventions. They consult with medical center staff on a wide variety of patient care issues. Staff psychologists may be involved in program evaluation and/or research activities. Staff psychologists may support the psychology internship through participation in seminars.The incumbent will be assigned to the Psychosocial Residential Rehabilitation Treatment Program (PRRTP) within the Community Based Care Service Line.At the GS 13 level, the following clinical activities are expected in the assignment for the PRRTP Staff Psychologist: Provides a full range of psycho-diagnostic services including assessment and treatment using the most appropriate psychotherapeutic techniques in providing quality care for Veterans with Serious Mental Illness (SMI) in PRRTP. Serves as a treatment provider conducting assessment interviews, composing psychosocial assessment reports, formulating diagnostic impressions, developing treatment plans, providing psychotherapy to patients through individual and group sessions, making referrals for aftercare and placement, and documenting services provided in the course of patient care. Psychotherapeutic interventions are comprehensive, evidence-based practices specifically for use with an SMI population. Complies with all CPRS documentation procedures, including timeliness standards for documentation and proper Veteran check out procedures (e.g. entering diagnostic and procedure codes). Consults with PRRTP team and other medical center staff on a wide variety of patient care issues and provides leadership guidance as indicated. Provides education to patients, family members, and significant others, as needed. Assists the Program Manager in the design, development and implementation of psychological services and programs and coordinates these services with the PRRTP team. Adheres to operational policies and procedures for the treatment team, established by the affiliated contract under which PRRTP operates in service to VAPHS. Assists the Program Manager in the execution of ongoing program evaluation and data-driven quality improvement projects to monitor the effectiveness of the clinical program. Complies with national and local performance measures including timely health care screening and completion of clinical reminders for all Veterans, inclusive of appropriate documentation of suicide risk. Attends and participates in administrative and informational meetings as required by the Behavioral Health Service Line ACOS/DACOS, Program Manager, and Facility Director. Participates in and complies with Psychology peer review procedures, including serving on the Peer Review Subcommittee Review Board as needed or required. Attends monthly Psychology Clinical Training Committee meetings and intern supervisory staff meetings as required. May facilitate or present seminars to trainees in such venues as case conferences and training seminars.
