Art and Drama Therapies are modalities utilized in the Inpatient Behavioral Health Unit to create safe and often playful environments for patients to explore and express themselves. Mediums of coloring, scribbling, painting, building, portraying thoughts and ideas as actions, and taking on roles allows the therapist to connect to the patient in a manner that is less stressful than traditional talk therapy. Both professions are an adjunct to talk therapy. The Art/Drama Therapist engages with individuals or a group providing prompts such as an open-ended statement, writing a play, putting together a collage of pictures that are important.
